Re: Explosives Licence for Pyrodex
The labeling on tubs of Triple Seven says it isn't a smokeless powder but can be shipped as such. As far as I'm aware there are no UN numbers printed on them.glevum wrote:I am confused
UN0161 is smokeless powder
UN0499 is solid propellant
I would have thought Triple 7 is a smokeless powder
It may be Krank's are referring to the Pyrodex pellets for .45 / .50 which I don't believe require a ticket. I have a box on my desk and there are no UN numbers on it at all. Say's "NOT smokeless powder but approved to ship and store as such" It also goes on to say it is not an explosive regulated by Federal Explosive Law, but may explode if misused." Then inside there's a multi language slip of paper inside "DANGER - EXPLOSIVES"
So thanks for clarifying that, Hodgdon. :)
Anyhow, I covered my bases and applied for the numbers Krank's gave:
0027, 0028
UN0499
My local firearm department were completely unaware of the requirement for Triple 7 to be on an explosives cert. I'm not sure I convinced the chap I spoke to handling my paperwork that it was. But he went with the flow.

Now that is what I believe Triple 7 was invented for!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Re: Explosives Licence for Pyrodex
After buying a Pedersoli 45-70 rolling block, I decided to go for black powder.
I already use Triple7 and was told that by Cambs firearms and explosives that I do now need an Explosives Certificate for Triple7.
Anyway, a wooden storage box should be here mon/tues and paperwork should go in next week, just need to sort out codes.

Is Pyrodex OR 777, or both? They’re two different powders, both made by Hodgdons and both BP substitute.

Re: Explosives Licence for Pyrodex
Used to be only 777 was UN0499 classified, be best to check a current Pyrodex tub and see what it is now classified as.
On the bright side it means that people can cut to the chase now and use the proper muzzle loader's propellant, Black Powder.
Unless you are a member of one of those cretinous clubs that say it smells worse than the pretendy BPs.
