Apel rings - The 'scope fell off!
Our 6,5-284 Schultz & Larsen is fitted with Apel rings. Yesterday I was zeroing at 200m on electronics when the 'scope fell off. Luckily I was shooting prone and it landed on the mat.
I assume what happened was the recoil had walked the mounts up the two short rails and off the end, I re-fitted and confirmed zero and made sure everything was up tight but it is a worry as I do have a reputation for doing things up rather tight in the first place.
So any tips on stopping Apel's walk off the end of the rails?

Some spot welds tidied up with an angle grinder?

It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!
Re: Apel rings - The 'scope fell off!
They were up tight already so it was not the screws slackening off, I suspect it was just the recoil walking the 'scope forwards, a small blob of weld tidied up is one option, I will also look at possible machining a stud into one of the mounts with a matching hole on one of the rails which is neater if this happens again.

I know you're a keen engineer and if you've got any to hand-try putting a tiny dot of JB autoweld on the rails. It sticks to steel like snot on a blanket.*

Good stuff JB Weld.

I know of it but have never used it so many thanks for the tip!
The rifle is on zero now so I will see how it goes until we get back to the UK.
