Good afternoon folks,
Sometime in the past few months there seemed to be a local primer shortage and in true consumer fashion I leapt into panic mode and bought whatever I could lay my mitts on..( hence PPU large rifle)..
Being a bit of a beginner at this reloading lark I have got standard recipes but unfortunately these do not include PPU primers.
Can anybody tell me what difference using these rather than CCI200's would make to my fairly mild 308 42.5 of N140 and 147 FMJBT.
Hopefully the answer will be very little, but as all that bang stuff goes on a few inches from my face, I would rather ask.....

In a light load swapping primer make shouldn't create dangerous pressures. If you are loading near maximum then it would be prudent to back of and work up. I change primer brands quiet happily and only work up loads if I see a deterioration in accuracy. I rarley load maximum as I haven't found them to the most accurate.
I have found PPU primers to be quiet consistent but they do seem hard to seat. I use the primer seater on my Co-Ax press to seat them as I don't need to rely on feel so much with that.

Thanks for that. I've just primed 40 cases and I see what you mean about hard ! I only have a lee hand primer and I now have muscles in my thumb !!
