With the exception of the No4T which world war 2 rifle number 4 would you recommend and why?

I have always liked the No 4 Mk 2 rifles, esp the "Irish Contract" rifles. These were post-war production, when there was no war-time haste involved and there was again time for proper fit and finish and good QC. The lighter wood stocks are very nice.

I have always found the UK manufacture Models be of better build quality and produce tighter groups but that might just be coincidence from the few i have seen and used.

I do prefer the spring loaded push button bolt release instead of the gap in bolt head rail type though.

Shooting it is what it's made for. Buying one and not shooting it would be like buying a Ferrari and never driving it.

Yes, a WW2 dated BSA or Maltby would be my preference if specific No.4 hunting, but I'd still buy the best example I could find within my budget, regardless of mark or maker.
