Had a great event down at http://www.stourportonsevernpistolnrifleclub.co.uk/ last weekend.

Shooting (Standard) Iron sights LBP in a field of Open (Red Dot) shooters, probably not my finest decision, but I enjoyed it all the same.

Mini Rifle was average, and found my Lantac a little heavy for the discipline with it's current setup of Vortex strike eagle with canted red dot. For the discipline all that's needed is a red dot on top and to keep the weight down so might try and mix things up slightly for the next event.

Don't have much more to add other than the link to the Eley page with results and some cracking photos from the day.

Was a long couple of days as the Eley Speed steel shoot was the Saturday, then a drive down to the south coast and up at 5:15 to catch the ferry over to Isle Of Wight for the next round of the NRA Handgun League.

Interesting comment on the Lantac weight, I have the shortest legal barrel and find that works well for speed steels with a Vortex Venom red dot. If changing the main sight over doesn't resolve the problem, perhaps shortening the barrel might help, although I think the difference in weight might be small, it's a weight saving which reduces the inertia (second polar moment?? -long time since I did this) and so reduces the amount of force required to swing the gun more than the weight alone would suggest.

I did think about it following the first speed steels, a shorter barrel would definitely help with pointing at the targets.

The majority of my weight I believe would be in my Strike Eagle, it's a lot of glass up on the top of the rifle for speed steels. That and a canted sight on the rifle add's up the lbs and makes it a slower swing.

I think I'll move to red dot only which should see it much more pointable.

It's hard though, I don't really want to specialise this rifle to a speed steel gun as it's not what i want to do with it, I don't think the weight will make too much difference in practical, and the extra mag of the strike eagle might come in handy at longer distance stages. Although, in fairness, Josh hicks beats the crap out of everyone with only a red dot, so maybe it's not such a bad idea to run just a dot! ha!

I think you're right a certain extent, the ideal gun would be one dedicated to Steels. Light, Short, Red dot only.

I shot the April one with my 10/22 and my PST 1-6. the rifle was great scope was too much. it weighs 1.4 lbs. Although I put the scope on because the COF said the targets were out to like 30m. they weren't.

October im going to either run my NWCP AR with a dot or the 10/22 with a dot.

Quite a lot of GR shooters opt for shorter barrels on .22 anyway.
