today whilst loading my daughters webley .410 for her, the cartridge went off before it was fully in the chamber ... i think it got caught on the edge of the chamber .. im not sure ..
the blast burned a hole in my left shooting glove .. the bolt flew back .. the bolt handle broke off against the ball of my right thumb and the rear section of the bolt left a raised welt and bruise on my right inner forearm ... and my right ear is still ringing (i know i should have had defenders on !)
all in all i think i was very lucky ... it could have been far far worse !

Very lucky for sure, glad you are both unscathed.
If you still have the cartridge, stick a couple of photos on here, some of the experts may have some ideas as to cause.

Anything obvious as to what went wrong?...finger on trigger?...although it should not have fired until locked.

Crikey you were lucky. Very lucky indeed. good to hear you are relatively unscathed but it must have been a horror at the time. Any idea what caused it to happen?
Is the bolt cock on close? I am wondering if the sear let go as you were closing the bolt on the cartridge which allowed the firing pin to spring forward before it was in battery.

Glad you're OK, hope this hasn't put your daughter off.
If I remember correctly, you have a Webley 410, could it be as Ovenpaa suggested regarding the sear or is the underside of the bolt is worn and it didn't catch on the sear as it should have?

Hi folks .. I dont have the cartridge unfortunately .., there was nothing left in the gun after the event ... The little one was seriously shaken up but says she still wants to shoot ..
I'm planning in taking the gun and what's left of the bolt to a gunsmith next week and see if they can see what's gone wrong ...
A couple of good things to think of tho folks ... No serious injury and as is the rules the gun was pointing down range when it happened !!

Phew...glad no one hurt. get the little un back shooting ASAP.. keep us posted on any feedback from the gunsmith.
