Agreed.... some sort of totally clear right to self-defense is desperately needed (Legal , Understandable and not to be challenged by some remote judge or jury when a regular citizen USES that right).... the current situation leaves the victim of violence knowing that HE/SHE is more likely to 'have their collar felt' than the perpetrator...... 'natural justice' knows that this is not right but still it is the FACT of the matter!

In many countries people are very used to seeing British city-centre violence, drunkenness and yobbery, thanks to the many fly-on-the-wall police programmes that provide an insight into this aspect of British society, so to some extent recent events have only reinforced and extended well-established stereotypes. That said, there has only been one topic of conversation around the workplace lunch table where I am in continental Europe this week.

Many people cannot believe we are so vulnerable when it comes to this, it will certainly have done our tourism no good at all. Funny how all those caught are pleading some "reason" yet there was not ONE protest placard in sight!

Certainly the nation MUST press home the need for a thorough rethink of self defence law, our EXISTING rights and the rights of VICTIMS (they should never be prosecuted) and not the perpetrators.

As usual these things are good for hiding bad news, like the knock down sell off of the Olympic Village to a property developer..Olympic lasting legacy, I think not. Just more thievery that will go unpunished because THEY are doing it.

But how do we change the obviously ineffectual 'British way' and attitudes? I have no easy answer because ALL political parties have no 'spine' for such radical change.... even though I would offer that 95% of 'Joe Public' would vote for some sort of 'Castle Law' as per USA.

At least the good old REAL NRA are making use of our troubles:

Now there's a new threat to our liberty. The U.N. is pushing a treaty to weaken our firearm freedoms. This is because the U.N. thinks we should be more like the rest of the world where guns are banned. Personally, I think the world should be more like us with more freedom.

And that's why I'm asking you to go to the link below, watch the video of the riots in Britain where innocent citizens are unable to defend themselves, and then make an urgent contribution of $15, $20, $30, $40 or more to NRA today.

What you and I are facing is a United Nations that has set its sights on global disarmament. Their goal is to disarm citizens worldwide, including you and me.

These international gun banners want every gun to be under U.N. and government control. This includes your rifle, your shotgun and your pistol. The bottom line is this: the U.N. treaty is not only an attack on the Second Amendment, it's an attack on our freedoms.

If you don't want to end up defenseless like the people of New Orleans in 2005 or the people of Great Britain today, then we need to fight this treaty now.

With your help, NRA will fight the U.N. treaty being drafted in New York, monitor the daily debates, press Congress to use its funding power to shut down this debate and make sure every American gun owner knows the horrible truth about the U.N. gun ban agenda.
