Re: New laws coming?
I finally recieved a response from my MP (Shailesh Vara, NW Cambs).
I'd had a "recieved your letter and we're considering it" type thing shortly after I wrote to him, but yesterday recieved a "proper" response letter, but even that didn't really express his opinions on the consultation.
But, it looks like he raised my concerns with Nick Hurd, Minister of State for Policing and Fire Service, and attached was a letter from Nick Hurd to Sailesh Vara.

My renewal is imminent, I've applied for a variation during the renewal. I've asked for a 9mm lever release, it will be interesting to see if it's granted.

Sadly I doubt this on two counts..Berger wrote:No news is good news we hope.if they read the emails there is hopefully lots of 10's thousands to read through and keep themselves busy for months as these idiots stirring it up are likely to be jobsworths.
At best I believe the responses will be in the hundreds given the general apathy I have seen.
Second, according to my MP, they will now create a group of MP's to consider this. She believes many MP's shoot and will take an interest. I believe they are mostly shotgun and will keep their heads down allowing this to be slipped in under the current "your government is keeping you safe mentality" and they won't give them back when the next terrorist attack is a Skoda..

A duty to protect the public before anything happens??? FFSDaryll wrote:I finally recieved a response from my MP (Shailesh Vara, NW Cambs).

This will not be stopped I can see it

I can only hope other such dangerous stuff like knives, fireworks, cars and bits of fekkin wood will be banned also before some fanny hurts themselves or god forbid someone else! I despair, I really do

Re: New laws coming?
Oh yes, they will also come under the ban hammer. If they change the classification on flick knives from a button in the handle to a button on the blade then spring assisted might be going the route of the butterfly knife... If they don't don't ban one handed opening knifes all together. They also want to ban you from owning prohibited knives in your own home, in case they fall into the wrong hands etc...Gazza wrote: I can only hope other such dangerous stuff like knives, fireworks, cars and bits of fekkin wood will be banned also before some fanny hurts themselves or god forbid someone else! That response from the minister makes it look like a foregone conclusion.Daryll wrote:I finally recieved a response from my MP (Shailesh Vara, NW Cambs).

Preemptory banning "in case" terrorists get hold of them is utter BS, as it would be far more likely for something like an AK to be sourced in eastern Europe & I can't see your average terrorist hanging around ranges where .50's are shot, then following the owners home, burgling their homes & breaking into a couple of safes when renting a 3 tonner & driving through a busy shopping street is so much simpler.
This whole thing is one more exercise in social control.

What will happen is they will make criminals out of law abiding citizens who have no wish or intent to harm anyone.BamBam wrote:Oh yes, they will also come under the ban hammer. Or is that the intent?

Re: New laws coming?
I recently had my FEO visit - renewal - when the .50cal subject came up he said "that is a foregone conclusion".
Not sure he knows more than others, just that it makes sense that it will happen.

If that is the case then I hope our "National" organisations will collectively challenge it in the courts and not leave it to a club to fund raise for and pursue.
If they fail on that, then they have admitted that their existence is meaningless.
