Reloading and licencing

Hi,

I'm just about to submit my first FAC application and have questions about reloading and certificates. I have done soe reading around but want to check that my understanding is correct:

I believe that at the time of writing, I can buy un-primed cases, powder and bullet heads without an FAC but I need to produce a certificate to buy primers or pre-primed cases.

I believe that primers are not entred on my FAC at time of purchase and that I dont need to state in my FAC application that I intend to re-load.

I believe that I can buy and store any number of 'components', including primers, as log as I never have more fully constructed rounds than my FAC states I am allowed to possess for a given calibre.

Have I interpreted things correctly or am I mistaken in some of these conclusions? Expert views and comments would be appreciated.

All correct although some dealers will ask for a ticket before they sell you powder (bullets rather than bullet heads...).

And I'd suggest that you let your office know in writing with your application that you intend to reload.(Keep a copy of all your application forms)
This will cover you on renewal if they ask why you don't have any ammo entered on your FAC.

I would put an ammo amount on your FAC request and buy a couple of boxes for two reasons..

1) You might want to buy a box to compare with your homeloads.
2) If someone gives you some ammo it is helpful if you have authority to hold.

Just my humble.. I intend on requesting more .22 on my renewal, as the shop is happy to sell me ammo on my wifes FAC but I have to be careful I am not transporting more than I am entitled to hold.

Thanks chaps. Looks like I got sometihng right for a change!! I will almost certainly be buying ammo too, at least until I get properly familiar with the re-loading process. I was intending to ask for 300 rounds of .308 and 6.5mm on my applicatiion and I've completed the forms electronically so will have a copy at home as recommended.

Application should be going in shortly.

NFLMS has a tick box for those that reload by calibre.

It limits ammo purchase enquiries, these being rendered void by the home loading process.

As stated, anything that you reload must come in under the authorised limits on your FAC... so just putting down say 40 to allow for a couple of boxes of factory will not cut the mustard.

Your ammunition allowance doesn't just define what and how much you can buy it also defines what you can hold.

If you have no ammunition allowance then you cannot hold any ammunition, if you do have an allowance then you cannot keep any more than that allowance, handloaded or purchased.
