Fazakerley No4 Mk1

#1 Post by falco67 »

Collected my long awaited No4 last week :good: It a 1942 Mk1 which was FTR'ed in 1950 I understand. Its been locked away for about 20 years.

It had a No3 rear sight which I have switched for a Fazakerley made Springer type rear sight which I believe they had when new..please correct me if I am wrong.

A few pic's

best regards

Geoff

Nice rifle, complete with evidence of hand to hand training skirmish marks - two on the front upper stock, and another on the left side of the butt stock. Imagine the trainees 'attacking' their 'enemy', with bayonets fixed and the clash of Lee Enfield upon Lee Enfield. Love it, history in your hands!

Never thought about the marks being the result of bayonet practice, that's interesting to know thankssign

I've taken the rifle to the range for the second time this afternoon and I'm pleased with the progress I seem to be making. Presumably because I changed the rear sight, I was having to dial in +400 yards on the 50 yard range, so I bought a full set of No4 Enfield front sight blades. The fitted blade was +.06 so I changed this down to +.015 and I now only have to dial in +250 yards on the rear sight.

I have now changed the front blade down to .0 and hope this will get me to where I can start to zero the rifle.

I ended up with a nice 2" 5 round group at 7 o'clock so some progress made. Looking forward to getting to a longer range

The rifle is now wearing an original 1944 sling and is starting to look ok.

a couple of pics..

regards

That is indeed a tidy group and a good looking rifle. I have three .303 rifles and could easily find room for another although it would probably be something a bit obscure.

Yesterday at the range and a little more tweaking. The lower front sight didn't make that much difference to the rear sight setting and ended the day with a group that I am pleased with. Just need to move the front sight a little more.

I used 40grns of N140 with a 174gn PPU bullet and a PPU case.

Just need to test myself with some longer distance!
