I'm not sure how these tracers work but the ones Ive seen on youtube have red tips? or is the red just to distinguish that they are tracers

Gazza, see the attached picture of a lineup of bullets I use for 223 loads.
From left to right
52gr Sierra Matchking
62gr FMJ
69gr Lapua Scenar
62gr Tracer
You can see that the tracer is clearly the longest bullet, but it doesn't have the most amount of mass. You can see a canelure halfway down the bullet for crimping. I would estimate that the bottom half of the bullet below the canelure would be tracer compound.
There are some tracer 22's out there, I remember a thread about it on here not so long ago. But given the length of 22 bullets and the amount of powder in them the tracer would not produce light for too long,maybe 100m to 200m maximum?

I just fancied having a go at making some of these for giggles but they are not made up as I imagined
Theoretically it is possible I'd say by pulling, drilling, filling with glowing stuff and reassembling. hmmmm
Incendiary rounds, hmmm, could be slightly dangerous
