Removing military crimp on .223

I had a ton of American Eagle cases to do and the counter-sink just did not work on it. I even did one to the point there was a 2-3mm 45 degree chamfer and the primer still didn't fit in as the whole pocket was too tight.

I borrowed a RCBS press die that did the majority of the cases but the rod that goes inside the case to press against is easily bent unless you get the height perfect. I've now got a RCBS bench swaging tool which is quick and easy to use. Worth getting if you have a lot to do or anticipate military/crimped brass in the future. I got mine from Ebay for £80 (new).

That could be dependent on what primer you were using... I had some GGG .308 cases that i used a countersink bit on, and then used CCI primers with no problem.
When i ran out of CCi I bought some Remington primers and they were a real pain to fit, many were squashed flat before they would go in.
I used a Lee hand primer with the CCI, but that wouldn't work with the Remington, so I had to use the press mounted priming tool.

(I had several misfires with the Remington too, maybe because they were deformed).

I've now progressed from a countersink bit to "proper" primer pocket reamers in a drill-driver, and then to a RCBS Primer pocket swager. So far the swager is working the best.

I was using CCI primers when they wouldn't go in. It was on the press though, rather than a handprimer
