Nice shooters financially helping the nice RFD to secure them supplies of their beloved caliber ??
Anyway, in practice, they say they will, but when asked to show the dosh it is usually an other story ... ;)

I tried that, and even suggested the idea here a couple of years ago, for 7,62x54 or 7,62x39 ...
The idea was to purchase 50K rounds, find, lets say, 10 people to pay for 5K rounds each who up-front and get a RFD to stock them up (for a fee) and release them as those members FAC allowance permited. Could not get a RFD willing to do it.

It you find a way forward & a willing RFD, I have good contact to source "soviet" calibers ammo at decent price .

I am a willing RFD and have storage available.

I need to know if it is legal and if there is demand

My FAC only says I can possess up to x amount. It says nothing about how much I can buy.
You can possess something without actually having it in your possession, buying something is just the act of transferring title and when you do that you then possess the ammunition whether you physically have it or not.

At the end of the day it is the courts that will decide whether it is legal or not, at present we have to go with various interpretations of the legislation, Home Office, GTA, Firearms certification departments etc.

If your license expires you take your rifles to a RFD to hold. So now he has restricted items you own and paid for but not in your possession. Isn't this exactly the same.

Quite right !! Constructive possession - same as the soccer hooligan who possesses the knife despite it being a few yards away concealed in his girlfriends clothing to avoid a pat down search !

Placing and order ( and paying for it up front ) of 5000 rds when you have authority to possess 1000 would be an issue.

However, telling your RFD that you intend to use 5000 rds over a certain period of time and will it be ok to pop in for a 1000 every so often would be ok.

Only problem would be - as the 10 individuals cannnot pay up front for the ammo without constructively possessing it, the RFD would have to pay for it and await the payment in dribs and drabs.

I have heard of people doing the above and then giving the RFD a cash gift ( nothing to do with a transaction of course ) that by sheer coincidence equaled the amount owed for the ammo. But that, is suspect at best and leaves the RFD at risk of losing his RFD at worst. I wont name the idiot who risked his living and only source of income !!

And if, say 10 individuals do elect to go the "unofficial route" and the RFD ships in 50k of ammo and then surprise surprise gives all of it to the same 10 people over the next year - all it take is for one falling out or indiscreet word for the authorities to get involved and then the paper trail would leave it obvious what was done.

So, trust would be needed....................

I "own" quite a few guns abroad. I gave the money to a club. The club bought the guns, it owns them and gave me a document stating that I am their sole use and that in case of a brankruptcy, those guns are out of reach of the liquidator and can only be disposed off with my express concent. We do the same for the ammo. Yes a level of trust is required ,but yes, it also works for me as well.
When there is a will, there is a way. A legal one that is ;)
