Which Mid-Range Target Rifle?
Hi Folks,
So I am building up my collection after getting my FAC late last year, next thing on the list is a mid-range target rifle...something that can get me out to 300-400yds if needed. Now I have no competition plans for this rifle at this stage, more something to help build up my marksmanship over distance and work out the right loads. I have a .223 on my ticket and that's what I plan to buy as it should be good on the distance and easier on my wallet for reloads. My budget is up to £1000 (including optics), but would be glad to spend less. My talent is likely to be the limiting factor here so happy to build my skills on a slightly cheaper rig and move up later on down the line.
I am sure there are many others who have followed the same path, I would welcome recommendations.
Regards,
JD

Probably couldn't go far wrong with a howa varmint, plenty of options/packages available sub £1000
What is a Sapper? This versatile genius condenses the whole system of military engineering and all that is useful and practical. He is a man of all work of the Army and the public ready to do anything or go anywhere, in short, he is a Sapper.

Not shot one myself, but the review I saw of one of these said the length of pull was very, very short and non adjustable. Definitely one to try for fit before you buy.Daryll wrote:Mossberg MVP LR..??

Get yourself an old 308 Parker Hale that has a good barrel and spend your money on scope and mounts
I'm sure you won't do this though!

Re: Which Mid-Range Target Rifle?
Just dug out the old review from Shooting Sports Feb 2016. MVP LR in 223 has a short length of pull 13.25" - with the comparison in the article of "I've seen junior air rifles with better than that". Also the twist rate in 1 in 7, which they suggested 75-77 grain bullets for, so keep in mind what type of ammunition you may want to use as well.Daryll wrote:13.25'' according to the website.jmc67 wrote:Not shot one myself, but the review I saw of one of these said the length of pull was very, very short and non adjustable. a friend of mine uses a PH with a 28" barrel it is a real shooter! cheap as chips and outshoots much more expensive kit.dodgyrog wrote:Get yourself an old 308 Parker Hale that has a good barrel and spend your money on scope and mounts

Howa Varmint 24" in .223 with a Boyds or GRS stock is another option considering the OP has a .223 slot already, lots around usually and good shooters.
Re: Which Mid-Range Target Rifle?
If it's anything like the quality of the Mossberg sporting rifles that I've seen save your money and buy something better. It certainly won't be hard to find something better than the Mossberg.Daryll wrote:Mossberg MVP LR..??
