Finding out about my new rifle?
So, I picked up my new rifle yesterday, and I love it already even though I have not shot it. I would however like to know more about it and am unsure where to start.
It is a .308 Mauser. On the left of the receiver it is marked up Mauser-Werke Oberndorf GmbH which I believe is the manufacturer and factory. There is CAL .308 stamped on the LH of the barrel.
The scope mount clips of at the back and swivels to release and it has a double set trigger The scope is marked Frankonia 8 x 56 Made in Germany on the top.
It would be nice to know how old it is, and whether the stock is original (I think it is)
If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be grateful.

Re: Finding out about my new rifle?
Sorry, Hrun, I can't help you on any of your questions, but that stock is beautiful!
I do know that Frankonia is a German company that makes/imports/sells all sorts of equipment, from guns to knives to scopes to clothing etc etc. Their 'brand' name is Parforce. I have one of their fixed blade knives, and it is very well made, so perhaps the scope is one that they have bought and put their name on.

Re: Finding out about my new rifle?
Thanks Les. The stock is not perfect, but I think it will shine up nicely.
I had a feeling that the scope was nothing special, but it came with the rifle so nothing lost until I can afford to upgrade it.

Lovely looking rifle. Not much eye relief on that scope for a .308 though, be careful it doesn't kick you in the forehead!

It is as it came, I have not looked at fitting it for me yet but it does look far back.daman wrote:Lovely looking rifle. Not much eye relief on that scope for a .308 though, be careful it doesn't kick you in the forehead!

It looks as though the scope will foul on the rear sight if its moved forward in the rings.....Hrun wrote:It is as it came, I have not looked at fitting it for me yet but it does look far back.daman wrote:Lovely looking rifle. Looks like I may be flogging a dead horse. Mauser just got back to me and they do not have any records on pre 1999 rifles.
Never mind, I shall just enjoy it as if I am the first owner..
