He doesn't mean they designed a new action or anything, just chose the set-up of the gun for a particular purpose. Camo paint job, fluted and un-threaded barrel, free float smooth handguard, low profile gas block sans front sight, and a more shapely grip than the milspec one, etc.

Fun fact: The Remington AR's are actually Bushmasters with Remington-made barrels. The R-25 (AR10) is made by DPMS. The three companies are all owned by the same parent company. Remington have also jumped on the 1911 bandwagon (which is no bad thing - bandwagons are there for a reason!) which they do make themselves in-house.

Another "Not-so-fun-fact"; Remington acquired Marlin, closed the New Haven factory, moved production to Ilion, NY and utterly FUBAR'd the rifles....... Quality control, fit and finish all out of the window. Plus, they raised prices overnight by 40%!!!!

Porcupine, sorry, my comment was meant in jest, I get that it is a standard AR action. My point is that it looks standard with a just few options that are easily available off the street for anyone to put on a rifle, so I would hardly describe it as 'designed from the ground up', nor do I think it is anything particularly exclusive, as anyone building a custom AR could duplicate it with very little effort.

I understnad there is a market for commemorative guns, it's just the 'ground up design' claim that smells like the marketing folks got their fingers in up to the elbow.
