Mauser rear sight marked on both sides

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

I have what I think is a Mauser M1930 manufactured by FN however the receiver has been scrubbed at some point so identification is a problem. It is chambered in 7,92x57 and has a 24"/600,0mm barrel. The thing that caught my eye is the rear sight is marked on both sides, not being a Mauser man I am not sure if this was normal on such things, has anyone come across it before?

This is the rifle and the rear sight, any comments or information will be gratefully received.

Yep, the sight was double marked on the earlier rifles, up to about 1938 I think on German production, to allow the soldier to adjust elevation without moving head or rifle.

I have one just like it on my K98k

TG, that makes a lot of sense and is something I have not come across before. Thank you :good:

It also helps somewhat towards dating the rifle. next thing is to decide if it is an M1924 or M1930 or something else.

The rear sight of the Russian RPK is the same, it is also marked on the underside so the operate can adjust the sight setting without having to to shift position, move the weapon and lift his head up which could present a nice target to the enemy.

It is indeed the same for Yugoslavian mausers.

Swede's as well.....

Strange that, Mauser pattern rifles sharing a common design trait.
