Tedious you need to find another hobby shooting is not for you. You need to take up golf or some thing else as equally mind numbing.
Over the years I have fired and owned all kinds of Wonderfull bang sticks the only way to get some of the old girls shooting was to hand load. As I have said before if I could not hand load I would have no reason to own or shoot firearms. Tedious (Sad oh so sad) I despair I really do.

Re: Milsurp ammo
I'm looking forward to reloading
I can see it being very satisfying.
A bit like rolling kilo's and kilo's of boilies when I was Carping.

Gazza you are going to be OK you get it all ready. I'm afraid I can not say the same for some of the other pretend shooters.
Re: Milsurp ammo
Why would you visit a reloading section if you find reloading tedious. The mind boggles.

Re: Milsurp ammo
So if someone only shoots factory ammo or milsurp they are a "pretend" shooter???!!!........really???.Alpha1 wrote:Gazza you are going to be OK you get it all ready. I'm afraid I can not say the same for some of the other pretend shooters.
Sounds like someone needs to get over themselves, to tell someone that they should give up shooting because they don't handload is ridiculous and so narrow minded it's unreal!, and what is mind boggling is an attitude like that towards a fellow shooter.....

No it was the tedious bit that I found strange. Like I said why would you visit a reloading section if you find reloading tedious. Milsurp ammo is cheap for a reason and you get what you get. You don't know its origin you don't know what powder or the amount thats in each round the primers are usually corrosive.
Why would you want to go to the range with ammo that you have no idea how it was built or how its going to perform. When its so easy to hand load and tailor it to shoot perfectly in your rifle for very little extra cost. Tedious never.
If you want to shoot milsurps ammo be my guest. I have shot thousands of rounds of it over the years. But what I can guarantee you is that my hand loaded ammo in any milsurps calibre will perform better than any bought milsurps ammo.

Re: Milsurp ammo
I love milsurp ammo, there is something about opening a crate that's been sealed from decades ago and using period ammo in your dated rifle.
Some people just enjoy the sport of shooting, the banter on the firing point, the noise & the smell, getting rounds on target. Milsurp gets you there on a budget, the fact that the really old stuff is a bit click bang adds to the excitement. Corrosive primers - who really cares, you will probably clean the rifle anyway so it makes no difference.
Milsurp is brilliant on ETR & CSR, don't be put off having fun with it.

Re: Milsurp ammo
Last time I looked it was a reloading and ammunition section......so even if you don't reload the section is relevant with regard to ammunition and the title of this thread is "milsurp ammunition"!.If someone finds reloading tedious that's down to them as everyone is different. What is tedious is peoples attitudes towards others that don't necessarily agree with their views on things, which is becoming all too common.Alpha1 wrote:No it was the tedious bit that I found strange. I shoot 54r milsurp and I know the average powder weight and type as well as bullet weight, I know which factory it was produced in so if you do your homework milsurp isn't necessarily an unknown. It is also more consistent that some commercial factory ammo, that cr@p stuff from Prvi Partizan is a lot worse than 188/ LVE Novosibirsk milsurp in both my Mosins and SVD.
