Ruger precision rifle
Following on from the Howa thread I'm still considering my options for a .308
Ive been reading some reviews on the Ruger with mixed results. Some owners say the rifle is a good buy while others list fault after fault which mainly seems down to bad manufacture/assembly.
Does anyone have one on here?

There seems to be quite a few second hand ones !.

Re: Ruger precision rifle
The only gripe I have with mine, is that the keymod rail section on the Samson handguard comes loose after a while. But that is because I'm forward loading the bipod and I will remedy this by drilling and tapping the rail section for a small grub screw to secure it.
I can't complain to be fair, as I'm easily hitting the V-bull at 1000 yards with it!
The updated RPR has a new handguard that has a flatter underside so there is more contact with the rail section. They have also replaced the plastic bolt shroud with an Aluminium one.
I think its a great rifle but like most things, people will upgrade the parts they don't like.

Re: Ruger precision rifle
I have the 308 and have had no problems with it whatsoever. My first attempt at reloading produced a 10 round one inch cloverleaf.....considering I'm relatively new to full-bore rifles and reloading I'm well chuffed.
Out of curiosity what problems are being reported? I'LL look out for them.

Re: Ruger precision rifle
The problems Ive come across in reviews are plastic bolt shroud breaking up but now I understand this has been replaced with alloy.
Reports of the folding stock pin wearing out quickly and producing excessive play when locked was another.
To be honest I think the reviews Ive read were from when the rifle first came out so maybe Ruger has ironed the faults out now but to be fair they shouldnt have been there in the first place even though its classed as a budget rifle.
Another anomaly I read was the barrel not being central in the handguard but this could have been down to poor assembly (maybe) or a "review" rifle that has been around many gun journos and been abused.

Re: Ruger precision rifle
It's not the barrel not being central, it's the handguard not being central :) I don't like the keymod handguard on mine, made it a PITA to fit an Anschutz rail onto it.
Only other thing I really didn't like was the cheap plastic pistol grip, swapped it for a nice Magpul and it's much better.
And I'm still waiting for a replacement firing pin (2 months and counting) as mine is a bit on the short side.
Brian, there is a grub screw underneath it already for locking it in place.

There's room for all Gods creatures, next to the mash and gravy :)
Re: Ruger precision rifle
Lots of choice out there for .308's without having to raffle a kidney.
The new Mossberg MVP is getting good feedback from users.
Some good feedback too on the Ruger Gunsite Scout rifle.
For the price of the Ruger RPR (possibly less) you could source a suitable Rem700 donor action & get an XM3 replica built by one of the local rifle makers.

Re: Ruger precision rifle
Ok folks, lets start again
What I should have said at the start was I will be after a rifle in. 308 calibre, it must be of a type that has a true pistol grip such as the precision for comfort purposes.
I will have approx 1500-1800 quid budget and this would include a scope ideally.
Alloy chassis would be nice too
Sooo, what are the options chaps?
