Re: Russian 54r milsurp experiment.....
I've done another 20 rounds this morning and the powder weights were;
1 @ 49.1gr
2 @ 49.3gr
10 @ 49.4gr
2 @ 49.5gr
3 @ 49.6gr
1 @ 49.7gr
1 @ 49.8gr
Bullet weights were all within 1gr variation and ammo is 1977-dated Novosibirsk Low Voltage Equipment Plant, "77" over "188" headstamp.
Pretty consistent for old Soviet military ammo churned out in its millions

why load one at a certain grain count?
When guns are outlawed, only Outlaws will have guns
Re: Russian 54r milsurp experiment.....
I would of removed the primers and replaced them with none corrosive.

Re: Russian 54r milsurp experiment.....
We would have removed the primers too and replaced them with non-corrosive ones. Assuming we didn't want to store the ammunition for more than 10 years and are too idle to pour a few pints of boiling water through the barrel after use...

Remove unfired BERDAN primers??Alpha1 wrote:I would of removed the primers and replaced them with none corrosive.
Safer/easier/cheaper to boil the barrel out with soapy water after firing.
Re: Russian 54r milsurp experiment.....
I don't think they are Berdan primers. I think they are boxer I might be wrong. Obviously if they are BOXER then you are stuck with them.
