Ordering from USA

#1 Post by Mike357 »

If anybody is looking for items that are either only available to US customers or cannot be bought with a foreign credit card then try out one of the personal shipping companies such as BundleBox or Ship2Me. You order goods in the normal fashion but have them delivered to your own dedicated USA address, they then ship to you. I have used BundleBox for a Voodoo Tactical Range Mat and although I didn't save much on price, it would have been advantageous if they didn't ship internationally.

A Boyd's stock for a 10/22 works out about $140 plus import VAT to the UK yet costs £ 159 + £15 delivery. Dont get ripped off, considering buying abroad!!

SincInt who are owned by Brownells have restrictions on what they will post to the UK so using a third party is an interesting idea and not one I had considered.

Nice one Mike!

May also be illegal as far as the US is concerned...
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Fair point Sim. It is odd we are supposed to be allies yet they refuse to ship some rifle stocks or 'scopes to us. I was thinking more about bullets, I keep reading about Swampy's (JLD) 7mm VLD's and would like to try a box but he cannot ship to the UK as he does not have an export licence.

The problem with such items is (I assume) I could be prosecuted by someone for getting them shipped through intermediaries, or loose them in the post or get a kicking from the UK customs..

I got my Nikons from...

http://theopticzone.com/

Jon and Tammi give great service.

I get stocks from Brownells and http://www.gunpartscorp.com

I'm currently trying to source a buttstock for a Browning B525 12G so that I can fit a Gracoil recoil reducer.

I'm trying these guys also.

There are state and federal laws to observe. US suppliers to US gunshops must have a licence to supply them goods for exporting.

I get no hasle from Brownells, if they want docs they get them pdq.

Some sites appear to have a $ value restriction such as Boyd's Gunstocks that wont ship over $100 due to US laws. At the end of the day, it will always be down to us to ascertain whether what we want to buy can be legally posted. I am not advocating trying to get around customs laws or import duty etc.

Sim G you still have to declare to your shipping company what you want forwarded so any issuue over leaglity will be down to the individual and common sense or a call to HMRC should prevail!

I tried to get some Uzi/9mm AR mags sent to me but the company flat out refused to send them to the UK. I then tried getting them sent to my friend in MA to send to me but MA has a 10rd magazine restriction law  Makes you want to scream sometimes when they're readily available over here, but you're just trying to save some money (read as; not get completely and utterly ripped off  )

I was travelling to the USA about once every three weeks - 60% of the trips were to just south of LA and I would use the same hotel. Very few gun parts were involved but mainly electronics - memory cards, DVDs &c and 90% for colleagues. The hotel knew me that well, the colleagues would have a parcel sent to me c/o the hotel and I would act as courier on my return - flying through another European country meant no hassle from customs, declared there but they never taxed me. I would charge the colleagues about 10% of the value - and it worked quite nicely. The best part was when my UK VP wanted some items (scope and some other bits) bringing through - no problems whatsoever and my travel expenses were never queried!

I may well be placing an order for a Voodoo Tactical Rifle Case (because it holds two rifles before anybody asks why and it's cheaper than an AIM  )

If anybody wants to order anything from the states and use my shipping address, I can delay shipment until all goods have arrived and have them all shipped in one go thus reducing the charges further.

If anybody is interested then let me know!
