I was told some years back now when renewing my SGC that if I wanted more than 5 guns I had to have an alarm on my cabinet,, nothing fancy but an audible alarm,,,I think that is just a local policy thing,,and probably not enforcable in law,,,,so anyway I put an alarm on it, and on the cupboard door that the cabinet is in,,,even though I had less than 5 guns at the time...but it paid dividends
when I moved address, as I installed it all the same,,,and when the FEO came round (a different one) he said the same,,,so I opened the cuboard door and the cabinet and all hell let loose in decibels....happy with that he said,,,,and it again paid dividends this time when I renewed my FAC same FEO came round, and remembered my set up,,,still happy with that he said and then upped my allowance in the cabinet frfom 5 guns to 7,,,,no problems..

Dont see the point in trying to buck the system,,,just go with the flow...then everyone is happy!! :D :D

They want me to put in a monitored alarm do you realize how much that would cost and why should I when I all ready have the slots on my certificate.

Well dont do it then,,and if it goes tits up then you will know the answer,,,and if it dont then alls well,,,,just dont be surprised at any future outcome...The Police issue our SGC's and FAC's they can also take them away...

Fair comment Barney but individual chief constables can't make up the rules as they see fit and hence it is up to us to stand up for ourselves otherwise we'll have all our guns taken off us.

You can still be civil and law abiding whilst standing up for your rights!!!!
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!

I wholeheartedly agree with you Mike.

Chief Constables are not legal practioners nor are they employed to interpret Home Office Guidance.

Just seems strange to me that I have had 14 slots on my certificate for over 10 years and now all of a sudden it can not be done.
Nothing has changed at my end. My house is a lot more secure now than it was 10 years ago and the area I live in is low crime.

You haven't changed, but policy and advice has. Remember, renews are when all circumstances are considered in respect to legislation and policy, it's not an ongoing assessment unless circumstances change considerably.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

just a small query if you have a slot/s or a one for one outstanding on your cert, and if these arent filled before your renewal date, do you loose the authority for them?

Ok so if the next time I renew they decide they only want me to have eight I just get rid of another four rifles to keep them happy.
As far as I am aware it does not say any were in the legislation you should only own twelve fire arms and then you need a monitored alarm.I believe this is my local force deciding that this is what they want.
I can not see what difference a monitored alarm would make it does not matter how many firearms are in the cabinets the alarm wont make one bit of difference.
I am between a rock and hard place as far as I am concerned.

By the way I forgot the guy who did the actual inspection had no problems with my security or application it was only when it got back to the licensing department that they spat there dummy out they phoned me up at work to tell me he got it wrong and then explained that they wanted me to fit a monitored alarm or drop two slots otherwise they would refuse my application.

Any way thats enough of that . Lifes to short.

You should not loose them but it depends how many slots you have if my experience is any thing to go by and your local forces current policy.
My advice is fill them I wish I had filled all mine before I applied to renew I wont fall into that trap again.
