GIs discovered that the three prong flash supressor was ideal for inserting into the metal strapping on C ration cartons and then levering up to snap the band. The barrel was so thin that eventually it would start to bend and the open flash supressor was also a magnet for every twig and branch when moving through the brush.
Nice looking rifle and great job putting it together.
Thanks mate, will have it in colt grey soon will put pics up
Decided to revive the gun as for a few years it was just sitting in my cabinet being admired , with the odd holiday up Suffolk on an ETR.
Got an original colt 3x20 to put on it (Although a delft scope would of been more correct, not made of money though and rare as....)
Hoping by now the gun would of "magically" faded to a more grey, has it heck.
Got hold of a later charging handle as the old triangle one batters the fingers with thanks to the H.O and Mr Ryan.
