Electrochemical Etching Machine for rifle work

I occasionally have need to mark something on a barrel or rifle part so I usually drag the part to my laser engraving man who is superb at what he does The downside is he is now 150 miles away so it makes for a long drive. This has set me researching and I am back to Electrochemical Etching Machines. As I would need such thing only occasionally I am thinking about making one, does anyone have any experience of such things, and equally as importantly of making the stencils. I assume the stencil printing is using some sort of special paper and a normal printer maybe?
