Recommend me a 6,5mm expanding bullet please.

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

I am coming to the end of a box of 6,5mm 129 grain Hornady Interlock bullets that I have been reloading for my 6,5x47 and I have to admit the results have been less than stellar so I am on the look out for a replacement.

I am looking for a .264/6,5mm bullet to replicate the ballistic performance of the 123 Scenar as closely as I can get and designed to rapidly expand on smaller targets. Ideally 120-123 grain and capable of being pushed to 3000fps, does anyone have any suggestions please.

Nosler accubond , very accurate and controlled expansion . I've used sierra and the bullets from barnes but I go back to noslers every time.

I'd go with the Nosler Accubonds as recommended above. I've always used Noslers for stalking/vermin etc. and I've never had reason to stray - superb bullets.

I used to use 165 nosler BT and Scenar 165 in my 308 and ballistics was close enough to each other not to matter so my strange logic would say that you should get similar in 6.5 between nosler and scenars

Waterford/DW Is it the Accubond or the Accubond Long Range you are using?

In my case the standard Accubond - 150gr .30 Caliber 150 Grain Spitzer, very accurate, superb performance on game.

I'd also highly recommend the Nosler Partition, but I'm not sure if it's available in the calibre/weight combination you require. IMO the Partition takes one helluva lot of beating - the biggest animal I have dropped with the 150gr Partition was a 32 stone woodland (ex park stock) stag.

The Accubond and Accubond LR both have impressive BC's and look like they are worth a try even though they are outrageously priced, especially when I will be using up 25+ over a couple of hours.

The 120 gn Nosler Ballistic Tip Hunting was very effective and accurate when I had a 6.5 for stalking. http://www.nosler.com/ballistic-tip-bullet/
