Re: AR Platform
So who on here isn't supporting pretendy AR shooters and their guns?
As I've stated already in this thread the guns themselves have never been an issue on the forum only the aggression of some pretendy AR owners and makers, they cause the problems here not the guns.
That is why there is pretendy AR Alerts on topics like these so as to try and head off the AR owner conflict that seems to always follow these threads.

Re: AR Platform
So define a pretendy AR? I agree people do get agressive over there AR but maybe comments like Pretendy AR could also be seen as agressive and trying to start a flame war in a thread.dromia wrote:So who on here isn't supporting pretendy AR shooters and their guns?

If you look at the link posted earlier rightly or wrongly is say AR refers to Armalite not Assault Rifle nor does is stipulate calibre.
Rather than posting three lines doubled spaced saying ' pretendy AR alert' how about just mentioning the other posts and suggest people are a little less defensive about their preferred bang stick when replying to the post.
Re: AR Platform
I used one of the NRA hire straight pull SGC ARs last month. Bloody heavy!
I got chatting to a couple of blokes on the firing point a few across from where I had set up on century, and they had a couple of Bradley Arms hobbies. Much lighter and more pointable. Don't get me wrong, the SGC I was shooting had a heavy barrel fitted and was set up for prone shooting from a bipod, but I wouldn't fancy shooting it offhand.
Once I have finally moved house, I can probably get away with spending that kind of money without her chopping my nadgers off.

Re: AR Platform
To me the key element that defines an AR which is missing in the pretendy ARs, due to legislation, is the gas operated semi automatic feature. Hence the pretendy AR naming,
I think that you have a a point about the defensiveness of AR owners and indulging that chip does themselves a disservice.
Hell my guns of interest get called on here SOWR (s*** old wooden rifles), treeguts guns, etc etc.
Even in this thread a poster has said that I should be ignored because he thinks me black powder obsessed, a denigrating approach to BP if ever there was one how wrong he is but then why should I expect him to know anything about what interests me.
Am I bothered by any of that? not in the slightest.
Most of it is good willed banter, some of it is just ignorance and a little of it is poor attempts at baiting.
Pretendy AR owners who are offended by such should grow up and grow a pair, leave the the dummies in the pram and enjoy their pretendy ARs for as long as they can.

Re: AR Platform
Dromia,
You seem to imply that its only AR platform ( or Pretendy AR as you call them ) owners bicker about whether their particular model is better etc
Well, it appears that the owners of historic firearms are just liable to bicker or enter "mine is better than yours" mode ................
As soon as someone mentions deactivating an old rifle, the same old suspects get on their high horse and come out with the "fact" that the guy doing it is wrong and that their particular rifle is better as it is "as issued".
Same goes when an owner of a historic rifle dares to mention that he wants to modify HIS OWN rifle - how very dare he !!!
And then there are those who get roasted for putting a bipod on a No4 or a scope on a SMLE or whatever.
How about a bit of tolerance ? Even for those who own a "pretendy" AR - they are not doing it just to annoy you - they are restricted by legislation and get as near as they can to the article in question.

Re: AR Platform
The thing is the worst bickering on here has been from the AR fraternity, I don't deny that there is equal stupidity in other areas but I am talking about the discussion on here.
I am very tolerant and as I have said repeatedly I wish pretendy AR owners all the best and fully understand why they have to use pretendy ARs, if you read my posts you will see that.
I certainly take nothing on here personally it seem that it is the pretendy AR owners who do that.

Re: AR Platform
Maybe you stop using childish phrases like Pretendy AR, and use correct phrases, deal with it in a professional manner rather than lowering yourself to their level.
I own an AR and the bickering on here is soppy a grant you, but I would suggest you rise above using silly phrases.
Now back to my SOWR it needs some tlc

Re: AR Platform
Too right the AR market is much more crowded nowadays, spoilt for choice.safetyfirst wrote:P
In the meantime, your choice has gone from the old guard of SGC Bradley Arms and Lanner Tactical and there are probably 20+ models out there now and that's just in .223. Plus there are new things due from Lantac, (my personal favourite) and I've heard good things about the Low Mill Ranges AR builds, especially if you're willing to change calibre.
I saw tiny little gun shops at the shooting show exhibiting straight pull builds I've never seen before, schmeisser, double star, Adams arms, patriot ordnance, noveske, all sorts.
There is also South Yorkshire Shooting Supplies, Rimfiremagic, making a rifle with a proper billet side charging upper.
