Good evening peeps,
This might be a bit of a bonehead question but.......
I'm going to have a go at reloading for a K98 but don't have any brass. Having looked on Kranks site I see that they list 2 cases : 7.92 x 33 Kurtz or 8mm Mauser.
The Kurtz are obviously "short", is the 8mm they right case or should I be looking somewhere else?
Any advice would be greatfully received.

Yes, you want the "8mm Mauser". The Kurtz is a shorter cartridge.
It's my understanding it's an American-ism. I've always known it as 7.92x57mm Mauser, but the Yanks like to make things simple, so they denote it the 8mm Mauser.

Yes, 8mm Mauser, 7.92x57 and 8x57 are synonymous. Just be careful you don't buy 8x57JRS as this is a rimmed case and will NOT fit in your rifle.
With the reloading in mind you may want to consider projectiles other than Privi. In my experience I found that the bullets were not truly .323" in diameter and we're more or less .322" in diameter. Why does this matter? The internal neck diameter was .322" too which meant that my bullets could be pushed deeper into the case with right force. I would recommend Sellior & Bellot or Sierra Matchking if you have the dosh. By all means try Privi, it could just be me but I wanted to give a "heads" up (pun intended).
As an FYI, the 7.92x33 kurz was used in the Sturmgewehr-44 which was the first assault rifle adopted by Germany during the second world war.

I have always been curious as to why Privi is still making 7.92x33 Kurtz, but seeing the amount of ex German WW2 kit in use in Syria and other places it is probably a shrewd business move.
PS I would be very interested if anyone knows a source of 150 grain bullets for a G98, the privi 198 grain bullets shoot very high and currently the only ones in the correct weight I have found are expanding.

The Yugoslavian reserves/factories militias held STG44 in stock for a long time so the ammo was produced. The STG was recently re-released and therefore I guess, with that in mind, they keep making the ammo ?
I bought some Roumanian (?) recently made 7,92x57 . I guess you could reload those ?
