Here's my .308 rifle in its latest incarnation - acquisition of the GRS Bolthorn chassis has prompted a re-allocation of chassis systems around the Tikka collection resulting in a surplus MDT Tac 21 which will be offered for sale shortly.

  • .308 Tikka T3 Super Varmint 20".
  • GRS Bolthorn chassis
  • 5-25x56 Nightforce ATACR scope with MOAR-T reticule
  • Innomount RTZ Picatinny mount
  • Accurate-Mag 10rd DS-SF AICS magazine
  • US-Optics Picatinny level
  • Tier-One Spartan III reflex moderator
  • Vertebrae bolt shroud

I'm well known for not being a fan of Soviet made/designed rifles, but the Simonov/SKS the exception to the rule. It's a long time since I last shot one but I quite liked it and yours looks like a fine example.

BTW the other exception to my rule is the Nagant revolver - I remember shooting a pre-WW1 officer's private-purchase (presumably commercial sale) example back in the late seventies - it was a dram to shoot and very accurate - well as accurate as any pistol is in my hands.

thankssign, it is very nice to shoot and an early example as the SKS was adopted for service in 1949 and mine is a 1950 Tula with the early spring-loaded firing pin.

Presumably it's got a new barrel as part of the neutering process. A Canuck pal of mine also has an early Tula which he loves.

They are very cheap in Canada (some are under 200 Canadian Loonies), coupled with a magwell adapter to take advantage of a ruling of the the use of "pistol mags" and you can have a nice fun to shoot and cheap to run rifle there, they are also popular in New Zealand and American's can't get enough of them (though russian one's never come there now and other supplies are running dry since chinese stuff was also stopped in 1993).

The SKS is a great everyman's rifle at the end of the day.

Latest rifle- Unique Alpine TPG-1 in .300 Win Mag, topped with a Bushnell DMR 3.5-21 x 50. Current plans are to get some QD mounts (on the way) as it won't fit in the cabinet with the scope on (too deep) and pop down to a place that does laser cut foam for carrying cases and have them cut out foam for it taken down. Also not a spectacular fan of the bipod as it's one of the non-notched Harris jobs.

Longer term plans are to get a moderator sorted for it; unsure yet given the crown arrangement whether to have an adaptor made up or get a second barrel for it.
