Do you need a mount for a No4 action or a No1 action?

There are multiple No4 mounts available - Fultons or Armalon being the best - but only one fairly rare type for the No1, which is an S&K mount.

The problem with No1s is the lack of any clamping point apart from the charger bridge (which itself is not a fixed or datum part of the action body, being rivetted on), and the S & K mount get around this by having a metal loop that passes around the barrel at the knox form.

I got a few SMLE No1 rifle no gunsmithing scope mounts from a place in the UK a few years ago for my No1s.

The mount wedged itself 'tween the rear of the receiver ring and the front of the charger bridge tightened up with set screws.

They have worked well but do need bedding in, as they slacken of initially upon firing but once seated in they haven't moved.

They were only about £40 at the time.

Yeah I've noticed there are a few purists against scopes on Lee Enfields as it doesn't keep to the original design. Understandable but it's like a whole new rifle with the scope on it. I've shot it the majority on irons but much prefer it with the scope. the scope is Leupold 1.5-4x20 Mark AR as I had it as a spare. The 20mm objective seems to fit well.
