Scotland’s most senior police officer with responsibility for knife crime has condemned Amazon for its advertising following the conclusion of the trial of an Aberdeen schoolboy who killed a fellow pupil using a blade purchased via the online retailer.

Karen McCluskey, director of Police Scotland’s violence reduction unit, said: “The advertising on Amazon is cavalier. No knife is automatically ‘UK legal’,” referring to the way the online retailer describes knives with blades under the legal limit of three inches or 7.6cm.

“It depends who is carrying it and it depends on the context – if you’re taking a scalpel to a football match then that’s a problem,” McCluskey added.

In the trial of a 16-year-old Aberdeen boy who stabbed and killed Bailey Gwynne, the court heard he had chosen the knife because “it said on Amazon ‘legal in the UK’ because the blade was under three inches”.
Yeah maybe so but it is NOT legal to knife someone is it! A weak excuse that was used to mitigate murder kukkuk .

No it isn't a GOM post, it shows the mentality of what the authorities will do to demonise anything, gun related or not.

Almost anything can be used as a lethal weapon, whether that was it's intended purpose or not. People need to stop blaming everything apart from the person that carried out the act! Actions have consequences

By her logic calling her group the 'Violence Reduction Unit' is cavalier - given that it failed in this instance and blaming the organization rather than the perpetrator is common policy.

Isn't the law pretty clear about non-locking three inch folding knives being allowed to be carried without good reason?

Then again, when have the police cared about the law?

No $h!t Sherlock, scalpels don't have folding blades so they require a 'good reason' to be carried anywhere in public. 8-)

I had a non locking knife once, after I cut myself with it I decided to stick with the much safer lock knives.

Quite right safety :good: :good: - you could quote Health & Safety for a lock blade on the grounds you just mentioned. Seriously.

I think his excuse is plain silly anyway.
