Thanks chaps, I'd contact him first as a matter of courtesy, and to make sure he'd be there and free to talk, but in the first instance I wanted to know how long it would take to get to him.

Some people are in far distant parts of the land, Lincolnshire for example, while others are in different lands altogether, such as Caledonian Arms.

Legal indeed, but there are quite a lot of armed police at London stations, and even a slipped rifle is going to get them excited. And I think GWR require notification of the transport of firearms on their services.

I suggest a case intended for a guitar. I have a soft bass electric guitar case I normally use when on the tube. It has rucksack straps as well as other good carry handles, I can fit a 10/22 and my Marlin in there (in their own protective covers) held in place by velcro. No one the wiser. Others I know use squarer cases and put stickers from companies that make keyboards, like Yamaha, on them. Sometimes I just use a normal gun case and I've never had issues. I do, for sensible reasons, minimise the amount I carry anything requiring my FAC on the tube or trains and they normally live in the club armoury.

All I see here are loaded firearms are not allowed (well, duh) and unloaded at the discretion of the train company:

Can't find the GWR specific conditions but since it's a breech of their conditions of carriage - not the law - the worst they are likely to do is tell you to get off at the next station (I am not a lawyer, this is not legal advice, etc).

Even if the armed police spot your gunslip they are not going start pointing their rifles at you ! They will prob ask to see what's inside etc
