Hi all im thinking of taking part in the CSR comps when they come up later in the year and looking for advice on which gun I should go for.

I'm looking for a .223 - 5.56 straight pull with the side charging handle.

The main ones seem to be Southern Gun Company and Lantac. There was another but I forgot who they are by now :(

I have shot a SGC one before and was shocked at just how heavy they were. To be honest I struggled to keep it steady.

For those with a Lantac are they relativity light or at least compared with the SGC guns?

And while i'm hear whats the cost differences between the guns i'm only after a basic model nothing with all the bells and whistles.

I have seen a similar thread but cant seem to find it now so sorry if im repeating something.

Hi Joe,

I would probably rule out the SGC's unless you have an interest in their lever release system. For one they aren't milspec so can't be swapped out with every other milspec upper/lower and as you say they tend to be on the heavier side.

As for the others and what would stand them apart I guess that's down to who you want to hand over your hard earned cash to. Barrel, bolt and trigger are important so you could compare those specs but so is customer service, not just aftercare but who has spent the time to answer your emails, return your calls or talk through your requirements. Nothing worse than handing over £2k+ to someone who doesn't respect your custom. They all have a presence online so you could read the forums, their posts then give them a call, have a chat and make your choice.

As you can probably tell the UK AR market, as small as it is, is quite split so you'll have strong opinions from every side.

... Well Peter Cottrell may say otherwise.... he seems to do pretty well with his SGC straight pull. Its more about the shooter than the equipment.

As Grizzly said, any of the established AR 15 builders will give you a great platform to compete with.

If you come to Bisley you'll see a whole lot of kit on the line and get the opportunity to speak to the shooters on what works for them.

True, I'm not saying SGC's aren't as accurate as any other. Just saying the above two reasons would be why I would rule them out, IMHO.

Mark Bradley...He can be a bit abrupt but he is a decent guy....

Putting it lightly.
I'm yet to see this side of him, however I haven't been to a CSR Meeting.

I don't own any of these rifles - it's worth taking that into consideration when reading my responses, these are just my observations as an interested party.
