Why not go to a competition BEFORE you buy your own rifle? I'm almost certain you can hire them and it'll give you a better idea what is out there and what is optimized for the discipline.

Going to a comp is a good idea as you will see whats going.

Hiring, be careful. The NRA rifles might to PO but they are horrid for SO, heavy as hell at the front end.

Probably the OPs best bet is to Meet Bradders and Baldie and ask them for a reliable, SO ready CSR rifle. No need for bells and whistles, you dont need bad levers, QR this, extended that, PIC rails that you then cover up to stop them catching, just a well put together rifle that cycles and some half decent glass (and dont start that argument, we all know best). Pretty paint jobs....OK but they wont shoot any better.

One of the only mods I made ASAP was the UBR stock as I found that I was needing a different length of pull to stop me short stroking the thing, it worked and has had other benefits.

I also have a Spectre DR on mine, but again because it was so cheap I could have sold it to an air softie and made a profit, lovely optic.

Its up to you. I have seen some reputable rifles appear that have damned near refused to shoot well with anything normal, had this happened to a Bradley (Like a very small running in glitch I had which was diagnosed and fixed over the phone) it would have been checked out and fixed PDQ:D

I cant comment on Dave as much as I like and get on with the bloke, I have never had one of his rifles but people speak highly of them and he's a decent talented bloke.

I (like many CSR shooters) have a Bradley Arms. When I went to my first CSR comp in 2011 Mark (Bradley) lent me his own rifle to use for the day. I haven't owned other makes of AR, but haven't felt the need to as my BAR is everything I need to compete. If I recall correctly I paid £1100 for the bare rifle (supplied my own stock/pistol grip) although it has been upgraded over time with a better stock (UBR) and trigger (Geissele).

I would seriously suggest you try CSR before investing in your own rifle. Most people are instantly hooked, but if you're not it's a lot of money to spend on a plinker. :)

Although I haven't been to a actual CSR comp I have been through those taster days they run. After that I was hooked.

The only ones I have used so far are the SGC guns and in all honesty not for me im only a little 20 year old and struggled with it to be honest

I rented the NRA's SGC rifle and it put me off a bit. Super heavy and as some of you say super front heavy.

I used my SMLE for the rest of the taster day, out-shot some of the ARs of the day to but that's not the point.

There don't seem to be many Lantacs in use for competition. Which is a bit surprising given how highly rated they are by their owners. How did you get on in the last CSR match?

Bells and whistles not required, nor anything "tactical". A standard A2 buttstock is fine, spend the money on a quality barrel from a recognised maker and a good trigger.

And maybe buy from one of the three gunsmiths who actively compete in the discipline, their names have already been mentioned in this thread.

Or you could look for a pre-owned and get it fettled if necessary, such a adding a side cocking handle.

Bells and whistles not required, nor anything "tactical". A standard A2 buttstock is fine, spend the money on a quality barrel from a recognised maker and a good trigger.

By bells and whistles it will include 4.5lb 2 stage trigger, muzzle brake, magpul grip and stock. Some find the A2 LOP a bit too long, possibly why you see so many using Magpaul UBR stocks.

Know a lot of you think CSR is really awesome, couple matches a year is all I can be bothered with. PSG and mini-rifle is a bit more fun to me and more geared for the civilian shooter, who wants to shoot like a civilian.
