Managed a visit to Oleg's this week and fell in love with a short Bulgarian.
Although the Rumanian was very nice.
Re-stocked ammo and variation going in for a 7.62x39.
Thinking under folder with rubber butt pad and a drum mag just for the fun of it with a couple of poly mags. Already has a Bulgarian spec brake and whilst not traditional Ruski it floats my boat. Milled receiver so a little heavier and if Oleg gets the AR butt tubes then there is an option for AR stocks.
I would like a red dot so new railed hand guard would need to be fitted (can a conventional side mount be fitted, anyone?)
Just have to wait to see how long the variation will take.

Re side mount......
Generally underfolder AK's are a bit problematic for receiver mounts. You must trim the left inside of your folding stock to clear the rail on the receiver. You cannot fold the stock with a scope mounted. The cheek weld on a folder is not very good for a scope. You will find that there is no place to rest your cheek when trying to lock in to the scope.
Re Underfolders......
If you choose an underfolder there is no easy way of changing to any other stock configuration due to the design of the rear trunion/receiver/stock folding mechanism.
It has been said on here that it can be done and that I don't "think outside the box"........but there is no way an AR-type stock tube can be fitted to an AK designed and built as an underfolder without seriously modifying (bodging!) a perfectly good rifle.
With a fixed stock AK there are quite a few different stock configurations open to you, including Romanian/East German/Polish sidefolding stocks and wood or polymer fixed stock etc etc ..... but there is a reason Underfolders stay underfolders.

OK, doesn't look too bad ( in a darkened room
) but you still have the underfolding stock I see.The scope looks a long way back, what's the eye relief like?.

Re: OK which AK Part 2
I would only use the mount for a red dot (and only a Kobra or similar) and understand would lose the functionality of the underfolding stock albeit it could be put back the way it was. I am assuming the receiver is standard and can fit the bar that a quick detach side mount would slide on to like my VZ?
The AR butt tube is work in development from a well known Israeli accessory manufacturer that replaces the standard underfolding fixing hinge using a Y shaped bracket married to an AR tube, but factory made. I have seen a prototype and it looks good and allows LOP and can have a stock with a cheek riser fitted not traditional but practical.

Mr.Snayperskaya,I like my under folder stock-only said it "can" be modified. Eye relief can be adjusted-moving the scope or modified SVD cheek riser. It is all in "working concept" stage, and went this way only because Bulgarian bolt carrier cover is twice so thick as AKMS.I stabilised it more at the front and only will be fitting very light weight scopes. At any time I can swap it for standard ribbed AKMS cover, the whole concept works! razz

Did you know that in Soviet Afghanistan if a Dragunov-equipped sniper had a removeable cheekpiece issued with their rifle they would remove it when not on duty and actually sleep with it as they were highly prized by AK-74 and AK-74u equipped troops who would fit them onto the triangle skeleton stocks so they didn't get burnt by a hot stock in the summer heat or freeze to it in the winter cold......
Zilberbak......you can fit a traditional AKM side rail to an underfolder, the Russians did just that with the AKMSN.The left arm of the AKMSN’s folding stock is bent outwards in order to avoid the sight mount bracket during folding and the sling loop was moved further to the rear.It was mainly used to mount the 1pn34/58 night vision scopes.
