Well - I am generally a factory ammo man but have to reload for this one. Splashed out on a Lee kit yesterday and knocked up 14 rounds thus afternoon ( I only have 14 cases ) Went with the old school 160 gr soft point round nose beloved of big game hunters of old.
Then I got adventurous and took a .303 case and turned it into a 6.5x53r case ! Seems ok - chambers anyway. Will test fire it along with the 14 "proper" rounds - if it works, it beats paying £3 per case for the proper ones !
Got me one of those new fanfangled 6.5mm rifles.

Well, just back from the Tunnel range at Kynoch.
My first attempt at handloading gave a 3" group at 100 yards - not bad for a 117 year old rifle and rounds with differing OAL due to my waiting for a suitable case trimmer to arrive.
And my experiment to convert .303 brass into 6.5x53R went much better than I expected. I just did one as I was not sure how well I would manage it. Again, not a perfect OAL at all but it chambered and fired fine. And it even stayed within the group that the factory cased ammo gave !
So, just formed another 20 from old .303 I had laying about - would have cost me £60 plus postage if I bought them !!
