Re: Simonov SKS first impressions
While cycling the bolt just now I noticed the rear of the bolt carrier was very lightly scuffing on the inside of the receiver cover so I've just taken the high spots off the underside of the receiver cover with a Dremel and a very fine stone just to stop the bolt carrier kissing it.A bit of matt black enamel on the bare metal and it's as good as new
Looking at some of the markings and stamps on it, it has had a Ukrainian refurb at some point as it has the [/] Arsenal refurb stamp on both the stock and metalwork.
The bolt is definitely original as it has the spring-loaded firing pin as opposed to the later free-floating pin that was used after mid-1950.

LOVE IT! gunlike gunlike
As a fellow military straight pull lover, I really like the SKS, glad to hear there aren't any issues with extraction either, always a potential issue with a tilting bolt action unfortunately!
If it wasn't for another couple of L1A1 related projects on the go, I would go for one of those in a heartbeat.
Well done..

I did say main designers.....Sadly I don't think a straight pull PKM or DShK will happenpolemass wrote:Hm,dont think so...you have to live twice, what about-PPS,DP28,PTRS,DSHK....and RPK,PKM...and RPG7...snayperskaya wrote:I hope so, if they do I'll be placing my order as I need a Tokarev to compliment the Mosin, Simonov, Kalashnikov and Dragunov.....will have the main Russian designers covered then.saddler wrote:Wonder if their promised SVT's will ever show up?

The SKS was removed as I don't think LDT have any more at the moment so Oakrise took them off until they are available again and I believe the SVT is having extraction problems that LDT want to cure before they are released....I think it is down to the tilting bolt/fluted chamber combo which obviously isn't a problem on the semi-auto version, although I believe SVT owners in the States etc tend to steer clear of brass cased ammo in them and use steel-cased milsurp

Funny I can't see them on the Oakrise website and I know they were there before, did you have to pay upfront as well, I'm not too keen on that as I don't know them.
ps typical just saw your reply after I submitted this !

It is fun and I think it could become second favourite of my rifles, it really is a joy to shoot and got quite a bit of attention at the range yesterday......one or two folks knew what it was but most people didn't have a clue.Ovenpaa wrote:Hmm...
