Got me one of those new fanfangled 6.5mm rifles.
It seems almost everyone is going down the 6.5 road nowadays so, I figured I would get one too.....

Re: Got me one of those new fanfangled 6.5mm rifles.
It's a Mannlicher of some description. Not the German 88 Commission as the magazine box is wrong (and it was 7.9mm anyway), not the Italian 6.5mm 'Carcano' as the cocking piece is wrong. Not the Greek M1903 6.5X54mm as it has an internal rotary spool magazine. So by a procerss of elimination, a Dutch or Romanian 6.5X53R?
I have seen the very occasional sporterised one over the years. I believe the 'Match Rifle' guys used the 6.5X53R way back before WW2 in rebarrelled Long Lees too.
Nice rifle anyway whatever it is and I hope it shoots well.

Well deduced. Yes, its built by Gibbs of Bristol on a Dutch Manlicher. Supplied to Manton and Co, Calcutta.Laurie wrote:It's a Mannlicher of some description. 6.5x53r - a nice little cartridge - this rifle prefers the 160gr r/n bullet - great sectional density !!
The downside is, now I have to start reloading

Nice rifle and cartridge however the 'scope does rather let things down. At least find yourself a Pecar.

Thanks - a great selection of Pecar there - will be going back when funds allow. Need to get the reloading gear set up firstOvenpaa wrote:Have a look at http://www.emmacustomrifles.co.uk They often have some older items for sale.

I just had another look to see what they have in stock and the Pecar's are demanding eye watering prices, eBlag might be a good starting point especially ebay.de
