That was the first rifle I bought, I sold it some time ago and purchased the AKMS with the proceeds.

I'm a big fan of your Bulgarian.

Have you seen the way in which Rifle Dynamics (USA) build their custom M-92's with the triangle side folder stock and the RD710 SBR's with a choice of colours?

If only I could get hold of a UltiMAK forward optic mount to co-witness the iron sights with an Aimpoint Micro H1 or T1 (or a suitable alternative) then I would be interested.

Unfortunately, at this moment in time I'm finding it hard to justify additional purchases because there are far fewer opportunities to enjoy these guns.

I think you may run into problems getting the barrel fitted as they are pressed into the front trunnion and you may struggle to find someone that will do it as it would need to be pressed in, the headspace set and then pinned.An actual RPK trunnion is also reinforced compared to an AKM trunnion and finding an undrilled RPK gas block for the barrel may also be a problem.
On top of that you'd need RPK handguards, which are the easy bit to get.I think that if you use an AKM pattern front trunnion it may need boring out as the barrel journal diameter may be different......awkward to do with the trunnion rivetted into the receiver and you really don't want to remove the trunnion as re-rivetting it would be a royal pain without the necessary build tools and jigs etc that the Yanks have easy access to.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to rain on your parade but it is a lot of work with a lot of potential for things to go wrong and hardly seems worth it.

Now the other option.....Molot (that produce the Vepr-12) produce the Vepr-1V which is a civilian version of the RPK-74 albeit chambered in .223/5.56........Molot are NOT on the sanctions list and there is a possibility they could produce a straight pull version.
Whilst I am not a fan of .223/5.56mm AK variants in would make an exception if one of these was an option open to us.

Ah,Mr.Snayperskaya....sometimes you realy need to look out of your "eastern egg" box....
Option1-you missed the M72 side route and Yanks have nice word for it too-bitsa...("gas block" for straight pull?-can be made from ally...job wise-here is biggest problem,I was told "no we cant do it" already but I am clever man,you know... )
Option2-Bulgarians are still making RPK...

The Zastava M72 is an option but depends whether they would produce a straight pull version, which may be possible as LDT in Luxembourg offer the M76/77 variants as a straight pull.

My bad...i forgot about the Bulgarians......that is probably what Oleg has in mind seeing as he is importing Bulgarian straight pull AK variants.If you brings in a Bulgy RPK straight pull in 7.62x39 I would be very interested.

Yes a RPK "gasblock" could be made from aluminium as it is purely for looks on a straight pull.....but it seems a lot of effort and expense to go to in order to create a RPK look-a-like, especially as it wouldn't have a RPK receiver.

I'm sorely tempted by a Bulgarian from rusmilitary despite my reservations about having somewhere to shoot it.

I don't like the look of the underfolding stock.

Since snayperskaya seems to be the forum expert of all things Eastern Bloc do you have idea if the underfolder on the milled receiver gun can be easily changed for the triangular side-folding stock?

To have a gun that looks similar to the Arsenal SLR-107 shown below would be something...

It should be plenty accurate for the job it was designed to do. The slightly modified piston driven gas gun by Rifle Dynamics (not the one shown below) can keep all loads under 3.5 inches at 100 yards without magnified optics and relying upon open sights or a red dot.

What's not to love? It's so much better looking than an AR platform.
