she enjoys the .22 but had already gotten bored with bench resting keyholes at 25yrds, so looking for something a bit more fun for her to get the bug biting with.

My full bore rifles are to much for him at present but we are working on it. He finds the .22 stuff to wimpy and boring. His words not mine.

well an update to this. GF has been along and shot a few bits now. she was using my rossi in 44mag shooting from a rest, and actually prefered it to how she was made to do it when at the BWSS meeting. so she has said she will want to shoot sat, rested. which does make a lot of sense...
she was happy with the recoil from 240gr 44mag, loaded with 5.6gr bullseye.
so I went off and got a variation for 44mag, knowing heavier would be better for her, thinking to myself, awesome, now I can get an Uberti!!! mentioned this to someone at the club, who advised against it, saying they had lots of problems loading them,??? not something i've seen much about. anyway, start looking at them, then realise you can only get them in 44spl.... grrrrr

i've had a henry big boy in 357, and i already have a 1892. so what else is there out there? not a lot. looks like it may have to be a marlin in 44mag.

What's wrong with .44 special? You're loading to special specs anyway. And the Uberti is also available in .44-40 if that so takes your fancy. 1-4-1 the variation for what you want, don't settle for something purely because of the FAC system hassle.

nothing wrong with it i suppose. that load is just a cowboy load, in a fairly light rifle. if the uberti is heavier, i'd be worried that it will feel like i'm shooting a 38.

how hard is it to reload 44-40?

No harder than the 44 special or magnum.

You may be told that because it is a bottle neck case that they need lubing however the taper is so shallow that they resize just fine in a steel die without lubing the case.

my variation and ammo holding is for .44

would I be ok buying a 44-40 on that variation? and likewise, can i reload and hold it as 44-40 if it says 44, or would I need to request ammo specifically for 44-40?
