357 mag-how hot?

How hot do you recon i can stoke the loads up in my Winchester 357 using Rogers excellent bullets?

Normally i just use 6 grains of either Alliant 2400 or Vectan A1 with CCI 500 primer and a hard cast lead bullet,but i'd like to push my range out a bit.I checked my reloading book and it recons the starting load with 2400 powder is 13.9 grains upto maximum 15.4 using a 158grn lead bullet,but i know for safety these figures are quoted for pistols.

I know theres a limit i can push a non jacketed round and literally the amount i can stuff inside a cartridge,but i like to experiment.

Well i already made some Roger,but figured if someone said they were unsafe then i'd just pull em' and start again.

I've started off at 13.9grns and finishing off at 16.Have also made 10 rounds using 10grns of Vectan A1 to see how they go.

I did an experiment in garden yesterday with burning a small amount of both the Vectan and Alliant powders to see which was quicker-the Vectan A1 was the fastest burn so thought that was the one i shouldnt hike the grains up as much.

Might nip down the range wednesday afternoon to have a pop.

My barrel wasnt leaded up after 50 rounds so they're plenty hard enough and the most promising loads for grouping was 13.9 and 14.5.The 15.5grns rounds were giving off a noticable increase in smoke,but i guess thats normal.

Crap lube has that effect. Use a proper lube and prevent the leading!

It's not the hardness so much as the lube - you will see I make my own (secret recipe)! I'm delighted with your success, well done.
