I get where you're coming from. In theory, it's questionable and could quite easily, like so many other Terror laws, be used to harass and punish normal people for doing no wrong. However, in this particular context, I think you might have jumped the gun a bit.

Re: Man jailed for possessing ammo invoice
My question is would we be so concerned for his civil liberties if he had documents relating to the sale and transfer of 10,000 Type 56 rifles, 5000 RPG-7 knock offs or god forbid several kilos of enriched uranium to unknown persons in the middle east?
Re: Man jailed for possessing ammo invoice
Usually what follows the Peelers arresting someone for a 'terrorist' offense, or something even tangentially associated with firearms (even if there's no substance to what's being alleged) is for reports in the newspapers stating that a collection of knives, or publications helpful to terrorists, or guns (often turning out to be an air pistol or rifle) have been found after a police search. In one recent case the gun found was a plastic toy belonging to a child living in the searched house. Makes for a good story about Peelers breaking-up terror gangs.
I reckon if any of us on this forum had our cribs searched by Plod what would a journalist make of leaked info that copies Guns & Ammo, BASC's magazine, Gun Mart, Historic Shotguns, The Development of Firearms, and so on had been found. By the way, that list are the titles of the first 5 publications sitting on a shelf above my computer as I type this.
Nothing/no details should be published until somebody is charged, anything else prevents access to fair justice.

FFS Gaz
IF you had an allocation of 10,000rds of 7.62x39 as an FAC holder or RFD then what's the bother?
An II gets pulled (probably on the CTUs radar anyway, particularly after ISIS declared they were going to infiltrate x number of sleepers with the various refugees) with suspicious info on his phone linking him to potential terrorist activities any you question it?
Well done I say boys and girls, result, keep at it, I will personally increase my tax so you can do it more often.
If anyone is guilty here its the usual suspect....the goddam press with half a wiff of something with which they can do as much as possible to undermine us, the powers, and panic the great unwashed as well....exactly as you are doing here as it goes.
Incidentally...while being arrested is often unnecessary and may be bloody unpleasant, it is not the same as being charged and convicted. This is why we are told NEVER to accept a caution.
A while back myself and an RFD friend of mine were ambling along the M5 in a Range Rover with 1x.50 cal, 1x408 Chey tac, a 7.62, .303 and 5.56 rifles with 800 rds of ammo across the board. The place was crawling with Police (some Op on) and we did not bat an eyelid as it was all legal...nothing to see....please move along.
Later, I will be picking up an H83 container with 650 rounds of M262 Mod 1 inside.....It will be on my FAC, regardless of its intended use and place of origin, again I do not expect any issues.
There are a million miles between us and the terrorist or criminal.

Alright, so I did go a bit full retard on that one. But for everyone who's now equating that with me actually supporting the terrorist, you didn't read down far enough:
I shall now shut up and go back to writing about new electronic targets instead.
I really don't have a problem with the Old Bill catching him and throwing the book at him. I was just a bit worried that they used something we've all routinely used ourselves as the key bit of evidence.Eshati’s guilty plea and sentencing is no big deal; robust law enforcement is what we pay our taxes for. Hopefully he is deported to his country of origin once he completes his sentence.

Political Correctness is the language of lies, written by the corrupt , spoken by the inept!

What did I say above? Plod'll have your door in and 'seize' [what a loaded word that is] your computer. This guy (an ex-plod) writes to the council to complain about them switching off the street lamps, the boss highways bloke gets the hump and complains to the Peelers. What follows is the 'four o'clock knock', the seizure of the computer, 6 hours in the cells then a grilling by plod. Yep, you've guessed what comes next ... release without charge. After a formal complaint Essex plod offer him 2 grand and an apology. Just imagine what would have been leaked to the press if plod had found holiday snaps of the fella on the beach with his kids/grandkids!

Re: Man jailed for possessing ammo invoice
But even at street price to us legal people, .223 is only 50p per bang in small quantity. That is over 50 million rounds that guy has bought and I bet a pound to a penny that he got a better price break than the average UK club owner buying 50 rounds of .223 Geco target 55gr.
Its more of a crime that he only got 4 years! Surely there should be some sort of bounty on his head by some ruler of some far flung state that would "pay us" for his extradition
It would certainly help the NHS budget

Not quite the full story.
Yes, there was over reaction BUT there was other factors to consider !!
Re: Man jailed for possessing ammo invoice
Of course it COULD have been a legal when a foreigner is found in possession of such a receipt for an ammo transaction ?
For example he could have been the equivalent of a Section 5 Dealer where he came from before becoming a refugee / economic migrant.
I thought dodgy deals would be paid for in briefcases of cash / bearer bonds / diamonds with no "receipt" or "invoice" given !!
I would imagine that if a UK RFD or Sect 5 dealer was found abroad with a receipt for large quantities of ammo LEGALLY transacted, he too would be "helping Police with there enquiries".
