1 to 6-10x scope recommendations

#1 Post by jmc67 »

I'm looking for a rifle scope which goes from a true 1x at the low end up to 6x or above at the high end of magnification, but have not had to buy one like this before. It'll be mainly for gallery rifle rather than hunting.

Does anyone have any practical experience with scopes like this? There seem to be loads on the market now from S&B, Swarovski, March, Sightron, and Vortex to name but a few, but it would be good to hear feedback from anyone who's got one.

I'm guessing adjustable parallax correction is a good idea, but from looking online last night a number of the ones I was originally thinking about have fixed parallax, so how important is it?

I use a Weaver variable on mine - works well for me. I bought it through the EvilBay.com
Check that the seller will send it to you if you go this route.

I've got a Vortex PST 1-4 on my service rifle. Cracking little scope for the money, although the mag might be a bit low for you. Plus Vortex give a VIP warranty and will repair or replace the scope whatever happens to it.

Had a Leupold 1.5-6x24 VX-7, couldn't get on with it on my Marlin .357 as parallax was set at 50 yards. Most of my shooting was from 10-25.

Always hear good stuff about Vortex.

Thanks for advice so far, and it anyone has any experience with the higher mag end (1-7, 1-8 or 1-10x) ones, don't be shy.

It's going on an Armalon 45acp carbine. Currently has a red dot and I'm just not gelling with it.

I took a punt and bought a Cmore 1-10 x for my VZ earlier this year.

I believe they're built by Nikko Stirling but I couldn't find many reviews for it at all.

It handled that task well, so for a sub £300 if was a good buy. An S&B however it isn't.

I've now rediscovered the joy of open sight shooting so it's been taken off the gun.

Aaah, another .45 ACP Armalon owner. Moderated, a la deLisle, perchance?

If so, why not do as we have done and mount a Hawke 3-9 x40 subsonic .22LR scope on it ? The reticle is calibrated for the drop of a .22 LR bullet from 25 out to 200 mards, and the .45 ACP follows pretty much the same trajectory. For point blank shooting under 25 mards you could mount a small laser dot sight too and dispense with the need for a x1 magnification.

Nightforce 1-4x24 is worth a look.
