C2R cleaning - Inside the barrel
This time with added borescope viewability...
What you reckon, clean enough...?
http://blog.stegough.com/c2r-cleaning-t ... -analysis/
The second video was after C2R left in the barrel for 10 minutes and then patched out with 5 wet patches and 5 dry patches to try the barrel.
Seeing the inside of your barrel speaks volumes. Just waiting on a new rod guide before I do a before and after with my RPA .308 :)

Re: C2R cleaning - Inside the barrel
Nice article and video. I'll have to buy one of those borescopes and give it a go. I have a couple of cleaning products I'd like to try this out on, namely froglube and Wipeout. I can still see some copper fouling on the last inch or so on my 308's rifling that I can never remove so I wonder if my cleaning products actually touch the inside of the barrel... What's your thoughts of C2R versus Wipeout or do you have no experience of the latter?

Re: C2R cleaning - Inside the barrel
Thanks.
Unfortunately I have no experience on the latter, however when i was researching C2R before going in to do the review, I came across Davids blog (http://shootingshed.co.uk/wp/2013/01/re ... mparative/) And wipeout was the only off the shelf product that came close to the copper removal that C2R did. The two are quite close in results from the look of the test.

C2R is probably the best product I've used for cleaning barrels over the years.

Great work....but?
Dave and Tim did an extensive (and fairly scientific) comparison with all the leading cleaners a few years ago. Its a given that it works well.
You just have to get people used to letting water near their barrels (although the same people wont think twice about shooting in the rain!!
)
Re borescopes.....great barrel burners

I continue to use KG12 for removing copper fouling from my barrels. Works just fine for me

They did, and it is. However for all the talk of how well it worked and lots of people's challenges that I saw of 'bring a clean rifle and we'll put some c2r patches down and see just how clean it is' made me wonder what it actually takes out, and what real world results one might find.Maggot wrote:Great work....but?

Aside from anything else it's just good PR for C2R, but for me, I was interested to see the difference it made in my barrels over the stuff I was using, and share my results to anyone who might have been on the fence.
Re: C2R cleaning - Inside the barrel
Something that has come out of this is the importance of drying and oiling your barrel after use. My method is pass dry patches through the barrel until I am absolutely happy the bore has been dried followed by a decent amount of oil on a patch pushed through the barrel, topped up and pulled back through the chamber. The rifle is then put away. I use the C2R oil for obvious reasons however any reasonable gun oil should suffice, despite the advertised virtues of WD40 I never use the stuff on a rifle.
These days we still use Napier Super VP90 in the cabinets however we also have a thermostatically controlled tube heater system in the armoury to further protect things and the combination of three layers of 'protection' seems to work well.
