I am dubious. Seems only Daily Mail seem to be reporting this very significant event !!!

"Turkish forces are said to have shot down a Russian jet after it flew into the country's airspace, according to unconfirmed reports on social media."

They clearly have solid evidence of this happening then...

Yeah - an "explosion" was seen near jets that were "hovering".

So that MUST be a Russian jet being shot down then.

Unconfirmed.

The DM are just the worst, anything they print has to be checked using reputable news sources.

Many news outlets reporting this.....I see it's in this thread as it's "shooting related" - thought this was a GoM story ;) !

Why do people insist on slagging of a story because of where it originates kukkuk . Every news media lies and spins to get clicks on pages, people should stop shooting the messenger and listen to the message. anyway, seems a few are on to it - see below. Well you would but the system won' allow them.

Just google search it.

This idiot Erdogan wants a war - would not be surprised if the Ankara massacre today was state sponsored.!

Will see what the Turkish news channels say - could well be some people twatting stuff and setting social media alight..the SM rumour machine is phenominal.

It still originated from a tweet - some guy tweeted that he had seen "russian" jets hovering, then an explosion.

How he identified the jets, how they hovered, how he identified who shot them down is a mystery.

The Russians aren't fielding Mig-29s in Syria, most have been withdrawn from frontline service.
Four types of Russian fixed-winged aircraft engaged in Syria, those being the SU-30SM "Flanker", the SU-34 "Fullback", the SU-25 "Frogfoot" and SU-24 "Fencer".
Of the two former types there are only four of each in Syria at the moment, the bulk force being the SU-24 and 25.

Numerous sources on the 'net including an RT report from Lattakia airbase which detailed each type in use.Below is an extract from a BBC news article.......

"Michael Kofman, a US-based analyst with the CNA Corporation notes, Russia has some 34 fixed-wing aircraft based at Latakia - a mixture of types, comprising: 12 Su-25s; 12 Su-24M2s; four Su-30SMs; and six Su-34s.
"This," he told me, "represents both the older generation of venerable Soviet strike aircraft and the new, most modern, multi-role strike aircraft Russia has to offer".

Plus the fact FSB clearance helps ussrflag :p

Edit...my bad, there's six SU-34s not four......and as a sidenote the Syrian Airforce is a Mig-29 user.
