Calling all foreign service rifle shooters

#1 Post by BrunelTR »

There is still a few days to go before the deadline (30th sept) for the NRA historic SR competition on 3rd October. They have added a class for foreign rifles and it would be great to get some in attendance.

Having shot the match with an enfield in spring I found it to be a fun course of fire with standing, kneeling and prone shooting at 100-300 yards. Whilst some of the practices are better suited for the enfields 10 round mag I personally believe that a 5/6 round rifle can handle it in the timings with some quick single shot reloads. With that in mind I will be breaking out glorious mosin nagant to take up the challenge. Details below..

+1. The match is a good fun course of fire and the crowd there is very welcoming, even for a TR refugee like me!

Sadly I cannot answer the other thread regarding the reasons for exclusion Gaz so I will do it here.

I am one of the offending Lee Enfield owners who, I might point out, rather than feeling threatened actually questioned the exclusion at the last shoot.

The reason for this was that on the first attempt, after a similar outcry, nobody actually entered with a foreign rifle, so you can see why the NRA thought it was a waste of time.

As for the enfield owners not wanting to be beaten by foreign rifles.....

You will be shooting in your own class so how would that work? Given the limiting mag capacities I would have though it would help you out?

It does make sense to keep the No4s together as, like SO in CSR, it compares apples with apples. I am afraid the typical current trate in the UK of "Minority rules" dont work with shooting, you have to turn up, shoot, and make a presence or you get left behind. The NRA does a spectacular job of acommodating the minorities on other shoots such as the Phoenix etc.

If you remember I actually supported the foreign rifles as I felt it gave another aspect to the shoot other than being an enfield comp, I think we all appreciate something different to look at and talk about. I hope this time you can get enough together to make it stick, so good luck, I really mean that and I think many enfield owners would join me in being defensive.

Annoyingly **** I am in Guernsey that day and wont be shooting until the following day so enjoy it :good:

#### 1000th post cheers ####

Just a quickie!
If the "Johnny Foreigners" have a separate class, where would the folks with Long Branch, Savage, Ishapore etc. Enfields shoot? as they have a foot in both camps.

Thank you Maggot, sorry to hear you cant make it. Hopefully we will get a bit more of a foreign rifle turn out this time around and into the future. Nothing against the Enfield shooters, I am one as it is.

Meaty, I believe the "foreigner" class might be based on foreign or British design so no4's from long branch and fazakerley would be grouped together. As to the Ishapores - if it is the 7.62 smles they might count as foreign class and I believe p14s and p17s also count as foreign. I may be wrong on this so maybe someone else can shine more light on the subject.

for the record I will confirm that Maggot was definitely NOT against Foreign rifles in the comp and did take some stick for that view, and he was kind enough to not only lend me his Rifle, but the ammo as well and squaded up with me to hold my hand as well :good:
