I understand those who feel the theft of intellectual property is an issue.

But there are others who believe that intellectual property itself is theft.

How can it be that you have a truly inovative idea that you openly market as your own having put loads of time, effort and resources into which then gets ripped off by someone out to make a quick buck?

I know its legal, but how is it decent?

I guess you should get a petent but the costs of patenting (I am told) often out strips any profit you may make on small niche items.

Personally I am with fluffy on this. Why buy fake?

Its not legal. As soon as they leave China they are subject to patent law in destination country.

If you report to ebay as counterfeit they remove. But no doubt will pop up again under another account.

They make them because some are happy with fakes - supply and demand I guess.

I know that perfume and tobacco companies put a lot of effort into helping sieze counterfeit items bearing their brand name. Seems strange the the UK importer has not put his foot down. I would.

I looked into this a while back when the first one arrived, not having come across the make before, and apparently, the parent company licensed an early model to a Chinese co. making airsoft stuff..................

The problem was that these were so good a copy that they were being passed off as authentic, and quite a few Americans who bought them were understandably not best pleased.

This is one of those, and as I said, despite being strong and CNC machined, it was completely useless as supplied, so I improved it, and passed on my efforts to anyone else who's interested. Sorry if I've upset anyone.

Anyway, there's no way I would pay just south of 200 quid for a bipod of any make, shape or form. I'd rather spend the money on powder, bullets, and range time.

Pete, when it comes to rifles, powder, brass, optics etc - which end of the market do you tend to shop in ?

At risk of drifting off-topic here, so last word...................there will always be punters prepared to pay full whack for an original item, and those happy to buy a copy, with the attendant risks. Side by side, it's immediately obvious which of these bipods is authentic.
However, as long as the item is being sold as an imitation and priced accordingly, I don't consider it a fake, in the same way that I don't consider an Airsoft AK47 lookalike a fake.............

Which end of the market? Why, the bottom end of course shooting in the UK is eyewateringly expensive for an OAP like myself.

Having said that, I do have a Hawkeye borescope and a Magnetospeed, and eight target rifles.....................

I read on a US forum that the guy that owns Atlas said he sold the patent to a Chinese company to make in China but they were not allowed to sell in the US.

That's probably where I first read about it. It was apparently the first (now obsolete) model that was licensed, and a number of these were nevertheless imported from China to the US and sold as authentic at authentic prices. It wasn't until someone tried to sell one that they discovered they'd originally bought a fake.
