CFE223 Load development

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

Has anyone given CFE223 any serious load development time in comparison to powders such as N140, RS52 or H4895? I am interested in velocities with the 155 grain bullets in .308 plus 6mm/6.5mm

Works a treat under a 95gr vmax in 260 flavour. Though not recommended for anything heavier as pressure will spike rapidly according to hogdon. I'm getting 3340fps without any pressure at all, accurate and deadly.

I've not tried CFE223 Davy but I use ramshot wildbore in my dta with the 155 hbc and I can do 2725fps from its 16" stub of a barrel. Not yet tried RS52 but am going to but I struggle to believe it can add any speed in my length of barrel.

As an update a neighbour and I did some experimenting this afternoon throwing CFE223 using our Harrell Premium Culver type measure and it threw a perfect 39 grains every single time during testing, quite impressive and reminded me of when I used to load with SP9. For ease of throwing or on a Dillon I can see it speeding things up considerably.

I tried it, velocity high, ES high, accuracy low. Shame, I had the same thought about throwing it.
