FAC condition cheshire

#1 Post by ellmerfudd »

Hi everyone, i am on my second FAC and have had a HMR, also had .223 on there but only bought one two weeks ago, i have an "open" ticket on the HMR but the .223 is for land deemed suitable by chief of police etc, but my question is this my ammunition for HMR is buy 500 hold 600 but the .223 its buy 100 hold 250, i need to increase the .223 amount as i am also a member of a range and shot 100+ rounds over the weekend, and i can get better deals on buying 300 rounds at a time, what do you think my chances are of an increase ? I believe the new certificates dont say how much to buy only the amount you hold, cheers everyone

DO NOT WRITE "CHEAPER TO BUY IN BULK" ON YOUR APPLICATION.

Your holding for .223 sounds very small for target shooting; is that for expanding ammunition? Requesting an increase for target shooting on that should be quite easy, I'm on 700 hold for my .308. Reasons would be your usage necessitating very frequent "top up" purchases, better consistency by buying ammunition from the same batch in "bulk", etc. etc.

Also my condition for .223 says use for the control of Fox and zeroing on ranges etc, so by rights i cant go out and shoot any other vermin with my .223 such as long range rabbits/crows, when i questioned this they said they wouldnt give an "open" ticket or change the fox to fox and other vermin until i shoot at least 400 rounds through my gun, what are your views on this everyone.

The .223 was originally for foxing/crows but i have joined a club 12mths ago so i think that was based on the expanding ammunition, should i put down i still need the expanding ammunition for vermin and also am now in a club and need to frequently purchase more ammunition ?

If i ask for my increase for target shooting will that include my expanding ammunition for vermin control or do i have to put that down seperatly ?

Ahem. Be careful here- you technically shouldn't be using your expanding ammunition or "zeroing on ranges" condition for extensive/regular target shooting.

Best way you can do it is keep your current conditioning/expanding ammo allowance as is, request an additional "target shooting" condition be added and add a larger, separate non expanding ammunition allowance for your target shooting.

Zanes makes a VERY valid point. Do NOT mention any target shooting except to say that you NOW want to use the rifle for Target Shooting AND Fox Control. For ammunition follow his advice.

I have taken your advice and written to the FLD tonight, asking to keep my current vermin/expanding ammunition condition as it is now and that from now i will be needing to have a new condition added to be able to have the correct ammunition for target shooting and asked to hold 600 rounds

O:-) I actually did shoot geco FMJ stuff at the range last weekend but also shot some of the other stuff to check my poi/zero as i needed to be sure they grouped accuratly enough to ensure humane dispatch (just if anyone was wondering)
