Variation done quickly but reduced ammo allowance?

#1 Post by phaedra1106 »

Strangely (for Durham) they turned round a variation within a week so well done for that :good:

However, having added another 44 under lever and a 6.5 Creedmoor they've only given me a hold amount of 200 rounds for the 6.5?, this seems rather small given that all my other centre fire calibres (.260, .300, .308) are 400 to 600 rounds.

Any reason why the Creedmoor would be treated differently?, I've sent them an email asking why.

You are looking for "reason" from Durham's basket case firearms licensing department?

You can bet they come back saying it was a mistake and then reduce all your hold amounts to 200.

At least you HAVE an ammo allowance, on my recent renewal I requested 4 more slots for new calibres and they forgot to add any ammo allowance, I rang them and they sent out a new copy and gave me 500 for each, which is what I have on the others (rifle cals).

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

All police are under pressure to REDUCE the number of firearms and the amounts of ammunition on certificates. This is so that when the figures are added up THEY can claim the success in 'Reducing' the number of firearms in the U.K. It can become quite a 'Game'. There are times I've played it and others I haven't. What I can say is that shooters who do not think or cannot produce 'Valid' reason lose out. 'Of course I need 1500 .303. I have 3 DIFFERENT Lee Enfields I neck size as they have different chambers so I need 500 for each, no I can't buy 600 factory 303 to have 200 each. Have you seen the price etc etc' is one line to take. I need 600 9mm because I have two DIFFERENT 9mms. FEO is there more than one 9mm? Me, Yes at the last count there were 19 different 9mm rounds. and so on. .455 and .455 auto anyone?

How much did you ask for on your variation form?

No it isn't and hasn't been for years. Specifically disqualified in the guidance notes.

On a fairly recent one-for-one I asked for my 7.62x54r and 7.62x39 quantities to be upped to 1000 rounds of each and it came back no problem.

May be disqualified. ...but when the notes have not been given much house room until very very recently....and even now not a lot of evidence yet of much change in heart/attitude: plus I know of specific cases where shooters have had holding numbers reduced. ...

None of this is cheering me up :bad:

I've not bought any centre fire rifle ammunition since about 1980 and only 50 rounds of pistol ammo in the last 4 years :run:

I do however keep reloading records for each calibre which may help.
