Swiss Reload RS50 experiences with .308 loads

RS52 is a high-energy/double-based powder which burns hotter than RS50.

I can speak with much experience of using both RS50 and Vihta N140, but have not felt the need to use RS52 being very happy with the results achieved from RS50 in my .308 rifles plus other calibres. I certainly feel that the use of RS52 would result in reduced barrel life over RS50 owing to the hotter burn temperature and resulting throat erosion.

I have used TR10 in .308 and 7.5x55 for a couple of years, its been very good, and I would still being using it if I hadn't got 3Kg of N140 at an even lower cost in a group buy, now I have to work the load up again, I have stuck with Elcho17 which I believe is RS60 for the 7.5x55.

Here's my most recent grouping with my 308 (5 shot group).
155gr Lapua scenar
RS50 powder
CCI standard primers
Neck sized lapua cases
The sticker is 1" diameter. I've done better but this is the most recent pic I have (shot one week ago).

Rifle is a Tikka t3 varmint.

The powder charge is 45,3gr and the bullets are seated at 2.890". I've not chrono'd these bullets but they require 12,4 mrad elevation to get on target at 900m out of a 20" barrel. I used to use Ramshot Tac powder (42,5gr also seated at same depth) which grouped well and needed around 12,5 mrad of elevation for 900m. I guess both loads must have equivalent muzzle velocity.

I also shoot a 20" .308 Tikka T3 Super Varmint - 45.3grs is a fair bit lower than the load I shoot. I get 2825fps from mine with Sierra 155gr TMKs. This load shoots very well as below. PM me for actual powder weight if interested, I don't like posting actual loads.

As an update, I chrono'd these loads over the weekend. Turns out I got a measly 2660fps average over 10 shots which is very slow indeed. Back to the drawing board methinks!
